Cabrio Ultra Fine Ryegrass is the most recent addition to Germinal’s portfolio of perennial ryegrass cultivars for use on cricket squares, tennis lawns and golf tees.  Formally introduced as a new cultivar last year, Cabrio sits at the top of the BSPB’s Turfgrass Seed booklet’s Series L list for lawns, landscaping and summer sports thanks to a fineness of leaf scoring of 8.8 – half a point ahead of its nearest rival.


Cabrio is available exclusively from Germinal as part of the company’s ‘Grade A’ range of grass seed mixtures. “The Grade A range has been designed specifically for use by professional groundsmen who are looking to achieve a billiard board smooth playing surface,” Richard Brown, Germinal Amenity Sales Manager explains.

“As predicted 12 months ago, Cabrio entered the 2017 Turfgrass Seed booklet at the top of the Series L table thanks to its class–leading fineness of leaf score,” Richard adds.  “At 8.8 it easily outperforms its nearest rivals and gives groundsmen, greenkeepers and turf growers an excellent opportunity to produce a harder wearing sward that can not only tolerate a close mowing regime, but which will also give good ball roll or bounce and will be very attractive aesthetically.”

Cabrio Ultra Fine Ryegrass is also the finest leaved variety on the BSPB’s G4 List for close mown conditions: when cut to 4–7mm Cabrio has a fineness of leaf score of 8.3 compared to its nearest rival at 8.0.

Cabrio is recommended for use on tennis courts and cricket squares where it is ideal for repairing baselines and wicket ends, as well as for use on golf tees and golf green aprons.

Cabrio is included in Germinal’s A5 Cricket, Tennis and Tees seed mixture where it is paired with Escapade, the “number 6” perennial ryegrass variety in the Turfgrass Seed booklet’s Series L list for 2017.   Cabrio is also included in Germinal’s A10 Golf Tees and Divot Repairs and A28 Ultrafine Ryegolf mixtures.  In all three mixtures, the inclusion of Cabrio creates a seed mixture which gives a high density, wear tolerant sward with rapid repair capability.
